Ashanti stool: Legend has it that in 1701, while Ashanti founder Osei Tutu sat under a tree, thunder and lightening quickly filled the sky and a golden stool floated down from the heavens and came to rest on his lap. Tutus' priest interpreted the stool as being the soul or "sunsun" of the Ashanti nation. The stool thusly became the symbol of unity and vitality for the people. As time passed different versions of the Golden Stool was created with varying geometrical motifs. This older stool on display features a seat composed of wooden slats.
