Ashanti stool: This stool displays the crossed crocodiles with a common stomach motif. It is symbolic of the Ashanti saying 'two crocodiles having a common stomach nevertheless fight over the food.' Meaning that members of the same family or village should cooperate rather than fight because their goals are the same.' Ashanti stools of this vain have common ancestry; artistically they were all beget from The Golden Stool of legend. It is believed that in 1701, the Ashanti founder Osei Tutu was seated under a tree and out from a thunder and lightening filled sky a stool floated down from the god Nyame, unto his lap. The priest Okommfo Anokye interpreted this miracle. He stated that the stool represented the very soul or sunsun of the Ashanti nation. This stool became very important to the Ashanti and was put at the center of the foundation of the Ashanti State. The beautiful seat on display features hand cut brass inlays, dozens on cowry shells and elaborate motifs fashioned with thousands of hand placed beads!
