Goldweight: Ashanti Spoons

We are pleased to bring you from the renown collector and African art dealer Ladislas Segy, founder of the world famous Segy Gallery in New York, a collection of authentic Ashanti goldweights. Mr. Segy is author of such noted African art reference books as "African Sculpture Speaks and The Masks of Black Africa".

This offering is sponsered by Mr.& Mrs. Paul Calfayan. Each goldweight was purchased in 1979 and were at least 20 years old at that time. The regular price reflects the current market value. The on sale price reflects the generosity of the Calfayans. Authentication papers are included with each purchase, enjoy!

Small spoons used for lifting the gold dust from the boxes were usually cut from sheet brass or heavy tin. The Ashanti name for spoon is "N'sawa." This mounted selection features two such spoons, the top with heavy decorative detail along the handle.
