The Sankofa Stool derives its' name from the fabled Sankofa bird of Africa. The Sankofas' head is always turned backwards, thus "facing the past." The Sankofa represents the old African adage "Always remember the past for therein lies the future, if forgotten..." Made of Osese wood, this stool is normally found in the royal palace. Wherein the family would put it out once a year during a family gathering. The eldest man or woman would sit on the stool and recall stories from the family’s' past. Children especially delighted in this recount. Consider starting this tradition in your household. Crafted in Ghana.
