Ashanti Stool:Gyenyame:Medium

The meaning of Gyenyame is "Except the Lord." In Ghana only the chief of the village could sit on this stool. Once the chief actually sat down on it, it was believed that no man could touch him. The chief feared no man..nobody..."Except the Lord." His destiny was in the hand of God and only God and if and when the chief died, regardless of how he died, it was because the Lord took him. No one on earth had any power over the chief..."Except the Lord." Both seats are hand crafted from an insect repellant wood known as Osese wood. The stools are popular replicas of the traditional versions and are widely used by Africans today in festivals and as personal decorative reminders of the past. The seat on display is featured in a brown color. A darker, almost black, brown color is also available.
