When there is a visual artistic expression that reflects a specific historical psycho-socio time period of a people that object is considered to be important. This figure is reminiscent of the time when Africa was dominated by European invaders or colonists. A sad time when most native tribal African art was considered to be absolute taboo, uncivilized, the work of the devil and banned from further production by the invaders. Precious African articles were destroyed and stolen due to this ignorance. Despite this assault, the heart of the African artist survived. In West Africa, Baule artisans in Ghana after a while began to produce small painted wooden figurines of colonialists as they were viewed through African eyes. Today these figures are very popular and extremely undervalued in our opinion. On display is a doctor, with a humorously plump, bulging, sagging stomach who perhaps visited a village from time to time; suited in well defined medical garb complete with red crosses, a finely crafted and detailed medical device, a pith helmet, a stethoscope.
