The mask on display is a unique creation of the Boa people that reside in the Congo. Contrasting pigment tones and far set apart ears are traditional characteristics. Older masks such as this have a thick wood depth. The mask is used in war related ceremonies to encourage warriors and or to celebrate victories. The large ears indicate a supernatural state of awarwness the the Boa people possess.
