If ever there was an animal that deserved to be portrayed in such a flattering manner, it is the African elephant. The embodiment of African wildlife, strength and great fortune, the pachyderm is a much beloved symbol of Africa. The Bozo people from the country of Mali use elephant masks in many of their ceremonies. This heavy hard wood, beautifully carved piece features a pronounce curved trunk, well formed white tusks and large moveable ears with raised pigmented leopards on each ear. The ears are hinged and flap back and forth! This one of a kind, grand mask has been used and shows minor signs of wear.
This is an authentic aged piece that was used ceremonially. There is evidence of wear but it is totally functional.
