Fierce and powerful and well respected the African crocodile is replicated throughout African art. In Cameroon the croc, is considered to be part of the royal court family of animals. These animals such as the elephant and spider are always connected to the royal family. The king is though to have the strenght of an elephant, the wisdom of a spider and so on. The croc represents a great military force, power and might that if this spirit was in human form only a king could possess. Out of tribute this croc has been hand cast and detailed in bronze. Such a selection is commissioned by the very wealthy, only. The artistry and craftsmanship is excellent, with the natural detailing, textured patterns, smooth sections and body positioning, giving the selection life.
