African clothing: The Fulani women of Cameroon and the Kirdi hand craft these semi-wraps. The cache sexe - public jewelry, are worn by young women when they are being introduced as eligible ladies for courtship to the young men of the tribe. The cache sexe is again worn on the girls wedding night. Traditionally they were worn by women in place of clothing on a full time basis. Different stylings would serve to denote social status, marriaged vrs widowed or as a means of tribal identification. Over the last few years the Cameroon government has banned women to wear these in public places. Yet in certain remote villages the everyday usage carries on. This selection is composed of hundreds upon hundreds of tiny multi-colored beads, tightly strung together, forming geometrical patterns. The 28 dangling cowry shells create subtle sensuous clicking sounds when moved.
