African Stool: The person to whom this important seat is presented is admired by fellow villagers for exhibiting an unusually strong tenacity for life and living. The person is foreseen to have overcome some of life's greatest obstacles and is greatly respected.
The stool is drawn from one piece of attractive hard wood and crafted by one of the villages best and oldest carvers. Great expertise is needed to achieve the wavy motif. Without using any conventional measuring tools the wavy pattern must be connected, flowing and continuos, unbroken, properly sized and symmetrical. This particular design has a few interpretations across Western Africa but the same ideology comes across. Many cultures see the branching stalk symbol as the "staff of life" which represents food which is the basis of life and key for survival. Others perceive the flowing arms as waves of the sea and the sea is synonymous with the continuos flow of life. The seat has a beautiful patina, is sturdy and the design well balanced. This older selection will serve well as a useful and decorative African accent piece.
