The drum on display was created by the Dan people of Mali. It is an excellent example of a tribal instrument used for village galas and ceremonial affairs. Drums of this genre are treasured items. From their initial conception great care is taken from the selection of wood to the actual carving. The musical sound is proported to reach the ears of revered deities. This drum is crafted from a native hardwood. The drum skin is tight and produces excellent sound. The carvings are clear with a few age cracks which are to be expected and completely accepted. Metal rings adorn the eye holes. A strong twisted fiber and mahogany knobs help to secure the drum head. This is a unique, rare selection and an avid drum collectors prize!
