Part of the infamous Gold Coast of Western Africa the country of Ghana is bordered by Burkina Faso, Cote d’Iviore and Togo. Ghana gained its independence from British rule in 1957. The ethnicity of the native people is predominately Akan, Moshi, Ewe and Ga. Ghanians enjoy and are proud of a rich history which is recanted through symbolic art works. Their marketplaces where various crafts are displayed are world renown. The artisans of Ghana have a flare for continuously and creatively updating the popular traditional design themes of their objects. On display is one artist contemporary version of the African Thinker. With a flowing sleekness this ebony wood colored figure displays an awesome example of how sharp edging is softened by rounded form. The contemplative face is outlined against the black by hundreds of colorful, tiny, hand placed beads This Thinker is well done and unique!
