African jewelry is as variegated as the African people themselves. Armed perhaps with the richest resources in the world the African jeweler is constrained only by his imagination and in certain cases by tribal tradition. The reason jewelry is worn is just as varied. In the country of Kenya the women have a tradition where the mother will purchase a special beaded choker and bracelet set. She will keep the beaded choker and give her daughter when she comes of age the matching bracelet to wear. This promotes and strengthens the bond between the two. In certain cases aunts may share with nieces.
