Goldweight: Mudfish

We are pleased to bring you from the renown collector and African art dealer Ladislas Segy, founder of the world famous Segy Gallery in New York, a collection of authentic Ashanti goldweights. Mr. Segy is author of such noted African art reference books as "African Sculpture Speaks and The Masks of Black Africa".

This offering is sponsered by Mr.& Mrs. Paul Calfayan. Each goldweight was purchased in 1979 and were at least 20 years old at that time. The regular price reflects the current market value. The on sale price reflects the generosity of the Calfayans. Authentication papers are included with each purchase, enjoy!

The mudfish has long been a symbol of conflicting values. On one hand well being is suggested because the fish is a good catch, being very meaty. On the other hand the fish is deadly because it can deliver a fatal shock to its enemy. The mudfish attributes have been associated with kingly power and rule. This weight is in fantastic condition and detailed extremely well.
