The dolls held by young Namji women of Cameroon to ensure their fertility are considered to be among the finest and the most well designed dolls in all of Africa. Crafted from a hard wood they are usually decorated heavily with colorful beads, leather strips, metal rings and cowry shells; though the adornments may vary according to the usage of the doll and the taste of the owner. The doll over time has become the cultural symbol, of the Namji society. When a select object achieves this status its usage becomes more pronounce throughout the villages for it serves as a source of tribal pride for all. Keeping pace with the enthusiasm associated with the Namji, Cameroon artisans have been commissioned to create the doll in statuesque proportions. Symbolizing fertility, abundance and overall prosperity, the 42 inch figure would stand tall at the entryway of the house either inside or out for all to see. This unique specialty piece is topped by a metal ringed coif and a Janus styled doubled facial area; each traditionally carved. Four beaded strands of earrings tipped off by cowry shells dangles from the ears. A long neck extending 4 ½ inches is wrapped by hundreds of old yellow beads forming a collar at the bottom. The shoulders and upper torso have been encased with neat, well placed, form fitting, hand cut metal stripping. Namji styled arms that show off fringed leather beaded bands and cowry shell star clusters.

The elongated waist is covered by strands of old red hand strung beads. On one side the torso beading is a bit worn from patrons rubbing the center stomach area in hopes of transferring the fertility powers of the doll to the believer. The thighs and legs have been covered by a decorated wooden skirt. Cowry shells and old plastic discs line the sides. The center of the skirt has two pronounce decorative motifs that are carefully outlined with multicolored beads. It is easy to see how this uniquely sized and designed selection is the pride and joy of the Namji people. It will be a well received addition of any collection.
