Life for the dessert nomad is exceedingly perilous; so it goes for the Tuareg people of the African Sahara. Faced with almost unbearable weather conditions, deadly tribal rivalries and malevolent supernatural forces, one can easily see how the Tuareg value items that are believed to bring about good fortune and well being. Highly religious and superstitious, they tend to carry small biblical verses, articles of luck and medicinal potions on their person. These items are often kept tucked away in either a square locket device with a secret compartment know as a ‘Tcherot’ pendant or in small silver and glass cylindrical vials, also carried around the neck. The pure silver pendant offered here was fashioned after the traditional vial but in a style and quality afforded only to wealthy individuals. It has been superbly crafted with intricate motifs and tribal etchings that translates into protective symbolism. It is a heavy and solid piece. An attractive dark rust semi transparent agate stone enclosure, giving body to the vial, has been integrated onto this pendant but there is no access. This treasured keepsake is suspended upon a rounded matching rust colored leather chain. This is a gorgeous eye catching piece.
