This towering structure crafted by the Baga tribe of Guinea has elongated breasts, extended neck and a head topped with a crest. Constructed from one section of wood, this is the Baga idea of the fertile woman. It is used ceremonially, both for the fertility of the fields and for that of women. Dancers, completely hidden under fiber skirts actually carry these massive figures on their shoulders as they run across fields during agricultural ceremonies.
