The Republic of South Africa is a country located at the southern tip of the continent of Africa. South Africa contains some of the oldest archaeological sites in the world. Modern human beings have inhabited South Africa for more than 100,000 years. South Africa is known for its diversity, and eleven official languages are recognized in its constitution. 1994 the first democratic election was held in South Africa. This election brought Nelson Mandela and the current ruling party, the African National Congress to power, and the country rejoined the Commonwealth of Nations.

The original black population in South Africa was the Bushmen of the Khoisan people. Those speak a very special language with a lot of clicks. At present the Zulu are the largest ethnic group in South Africa. The Zulu, historically fierce tactical warriors were highly respected for their unique weaponry. Though not at arms now the custom made armaments are very well crafted and make for excellent exotic wall decorations.

The shields on display have been beautifully crafted from a native hard wood. Each features precise raised symmetrical design that creates an attractive grooved relief on the face. The selections are colored with dark brown, tan and cream pigmentations.
