The Toma people reside in the rainforest that border the countries of Guinea and Liberia. In Liberia the Toma are referred to as Loma. The Toma as a whole govern their entire social, political and spiritual behavior around the mandates of the Poro society. Among other duties, the Poro members are responsible for the initiation of young boys into manhood. One of the most important objects that a young man can obtain that announces his manhood and total acceptance as a viable member of the tribe is a spear. Hand forged and crafted from the finest materials, a good spear is held in high esteem for it's precision as a weapon and as a symbol of tribal pride. A warrior/hunter will keep his favored spear for the duration of his life. A spear designated to combat and kill big game such as the lion is given only to the bravest and best hunters in the village. The danger is frightfully real and the hunter must be up to the task. The most reliable weapon in his arsenal is his spear. Complete with an irregularly long spear head and sturdy yet decorated solid hard wood shaft this specially designed spear is his first line of offense. Our selection is authentic, not a replica, has been used and is in very good shape.
