Product Description

The Tuareg of the Sahara are referred to in the Bible as the original “Canaanites.” They are descendants from an ancient race of people known as Berbers. Jewelry from the Sahara has been characterized by traditional protective symbolism. The fine etchings and associated beliefs are a collusion of Islam, West African animism and Christian ideologies. The tiny detailed insignia generally translates into words and phrases, empowered by God, which will protect the wearer. The metal itself, silver, is purported to be pure and to possess protective qualities. According to Tuareg belief silver is “the metal of the Prophet.” The finely detailed and professionally crafted pendant design of our offering is unique to the Tuareg people and the creation of a well respected master jeweler from Niger. A beautiful hand cut oval of a semi translucent African green agate stone whose centered hole is bordered by a sterling silver ring, has fine natural mosaic lines of crackling and topped by a fine heavy, sterling silver attachment. The pendant is suspended upon a thick green leather necklace. This makes for a wonderful unique gift and may be worn by both men and women. This pendant was NOT mass produced in a factory outside of Africa like so many shamefully are today. This pendant was hand crafted, by our Tuareg jeweler, in the country of Niger.
