Turquoise Stone Necklace

African jewelry: When we think of African art, statues and masks usually come to mind. However, since the earliest of times Africans were skilled jewelers who crafted necklaces, hair ornaments, bangles and anklets from a gamut of mediums. Necklaces, often elaborated with tribal insignia and defining design served to link the wearer with a particular tribe or region. Necklaces also were an indicator of wealth and power. To the Tuareg, silver was a ‘pure metal from the prophet’ and any one how could afford to own a piece of silver jewelry did! Their jewelry served as good luck tokens and protection devices. Any enhancement such as a semi precious stone, the turquoise, added to the power of the talisman and to the perceived wealth and well being of the owner. This elegant pendant was hand crafted from pure silver and features a large oval shaped fine blue turquoise stone. The beads on the chain matches the blue in the stone perfectly; silver cylindical sections have been added for added elegance. The jewelers identification mark is placed on the back of the medallion. A matching set of turquoise earrings is also offered in our Jewlery section.
