African tribes vary widely in their culture and way of life. One common denominator is the general concern that Africans have for self-adornment. Regional and tribal differences might dictate preference for a particular body part such as the ankle; arm or nose but the ear and lobe are generally accepted by all. The designers of these two earring pairs are Tuareg. They are direct descendants from an ancient race of people known as the Berbers. The Tuareg adhere to and incorporate basic Berber markings, shapes and patterns onto their jewelry and embroidery works. The markings have been interpreted as protective symbolism. The etchings and adjoining beliefs are a culmination of Islam, West African animism and Christianity. These artfully designed earrings are crafted from pure African silver, including the posts and ebony wood that has been polished to a high glossy shine. Detailed etchings are featured on the silver fronts along with the mark of a master jewelry on the back!
