Woven Baskets

baskets-main.jpg

In the ancient tradition of African weaving, come new, yet old, works of art and utility. These beautiful pieces are meant to carry and hold grains, fruits, vegetables, gourds, leaves and other natural wonders. Traditionally Africans also used baskets for ceremonial purposes and as gifts.

Vibrant and often colorful these crafts hail from the African countries of Rwanda and Uganda. They are hand woven from sisal, sweetgrass, banana leaf stalk and or raffia from palm leaves. The art of Basketry has created a valuable source of income for hundreds of women throughout Africa. In turn the baskets provide us with a new wave of alternative wall décor!

Each sisal Rwandan basket comes with a string attached to the back so that you can combine them with other baskets or works of art to make an eye catching wall collage.

In addition our baskets, especially the trays make for a beautiful table display.
