African jewelry: When we think of African art, statues and masks usually come to mind. However, since the earliest of times, Africans were skilled jewelers. They made a wide variety of necklaces, chokers, and countless other selections. A bevy of resources such as gold, silver, bronze, ivory, animal bone and semi/precious stones were used to craft these pieces. Some items were worn to show off persons’ wealth and social status. Others symbolized sexual maturity. While others still, provided a person with a general sense of self and tribal pride. The necklaces on display are fashioned by the Yoruba people of Nigeria from copper and brass sections. Each metal piece has been embossed and carefully wrapped around a strong cord made from natural fiber. These necklaces are unusual and make for a wonderful jewelry accent to any wardrobe. Please select either the brass or copper necklace. The price is for one strand.
