Our small masks are perfect! They are low cost but the best part is that they are Authentic! These items were not made for the trade. They have been gathered after actual use during public festivals!

This set includes two Lele tribe masks:

Today the 250,000 members of the Kuba kingdom has subdivided into eighteen self sustaining tribes including the Bushoong, Ngeende, Kete, Lele, Binji, Dengese, Mbuun and Wongo. Each tribe pays an annual tribute to the Nyim, the king of the Bushoong. The 30,000 or so Kuba sub group called the Lele occupy the western region of the Kuba kingdom. Not much is really known about their tribal organization and spiritual practices. They do sustain themselves by hunting and by engaging in agricultural endeavors. They have a small array of specially designed prestigious masks reserved for important occasions. Most of the artwork such as the offering here on display, has been heavily influenced by other Kuba people mainly the Songye and BaLuba.

The larger mask has a dark brown pigment with contrasting tan accents. The smaller featured mask has been adorned with a beautiful native bird feathering along its lower rim.

Great African accent pieces!

Dimensions: Smaller: 8 inches long x 7 1/2 inches wide. The measurements include the feathering.

Larger: 9 3/4 inches long x 5 inches across
