Life for the dessert nomad is exceedingly perilous; so it goes for the Tuareg people of the African Sahara. Faced with almost unbearable weather conditions, deadly tribal rivalries and perceived malevolent supernatural forces, one can easily see how the Tuareg value items that are believed to bring about good fortune and well being. Fear of the evil eye is also prevalent among people of Berber origin. They fight the power of the evil eye with a good eye, which comes in the form of a circle with a dot drawn in the center, the front of a cowry shell or it maybe in the form of a triangle. Good eye symbolism is often a staple feature on the jewelry pieces. Persons of great nobility carry amulet boxes known as Tcherot which are crafted from brass, copper or silver. They contain biblical verses and magical inscriptions that serve to protect the Tuareg and their herds. Our highly valued Tcherot has the tradition triangular layered form, is solidly constructed, contains the protective good eye center and is crafted from the finest African silver available. This heavy piece has intricate age old detailing and is suspended from a sturdy blue beaded necklace. The beaded chain has 4 silver bamboo shaped cylinders and 4 mulit-flat sided silver pieces. The necklace is very attractive and very strong. The age of this selection is apparent from the very craftsmanship. This is a classic authentic version the Tuareg Tcherot.
