When it is time for Bamoun villagers to gather for the "Meduh" festival in Cameroon, chosen members would signal the onset by blowing into highly ornate horns that are dedicated solely to this special duty. The size of these instruments can vary greatly from just under 12 inches to over 10 feet tall depending on their placement in the village. The larger ones serve as an entrance way forming an arch to property designated for royalty. They can also be found serving as the gateway into the village itself. Smaller hand held versions are carefully kept and utilized for ceremony. Regardless of size they are all carved from one piece of solid hard wood! Each is laced with motifs from base to tip that glorify Bamoun ancestors, royalty and spiritual ideology. Our 5 foot horns are the embodiment of this craft. The carvings are large and clear and traditional. Each horn can stand alone. We do suggest however that platforms are attached to ensure balance. This service can be done by us. The price is for the pair.
