Product Description

" Handwoven cloth is sometimes regarded as having a spiritual potential not found in manufactured fabric."

The hand making skills required to create such high quality fabric has been passed down from one generation to the next for at least 700 years.

The Baule use a technique called "Ikat." It is a deeply complex process in which the threads are lined up on a loom by a weaver to form a pattern before being woven.

The full size cotton selection offered here is a beautiful and I mean a beautiful piece of genuine Baule tribe hand woven cloth! Hand made black cotton cloth serves as the backing for an amazing display of sew-man-ship. Inlaid horizontal lines of white, red, green and shimmering gold metal infused thread border above and below, a raised white stitched rectangular dash pattern. The main body of this amazing fabric features embroidered rows of repetitive geometrical tribal motifs in white, red, green and metallic laced gold threading.

This cloth is very very well done, an absolute testimony as to the expert hand craftsmanship of weavers in the African country of Burkina Faso.

Older selections in general may include tiny rips in the seams, hand made repair work and staining. These are all normal characteristics of aged textiles This cloth is in very good condition!
