One commonality among the Tuareg jewelers is the use of silver. Silver is the metal of choice for desert dwellers. Silver is considered to be pure, a talisman of good luck and it is believed to be the metal of the "Prophet." The African silver item on display is a highly stylized variation of "tchat tchat," abstract representations of Saharan clay dolls with fat bottoms and open arms that symbolize fertility. Tchat tchat dolls are used by young girls and women throughout the Sahara. The dolls are usually kept until adulthood is reached. This selection offers delicate silver pieces that are interpersed between tiny opalescent red or black beads and silver cylindrical embossed dividers. This is a very attractive, well crafted selection. This item is worn with pride by Tuareg women. Please select either black beading or red beading (shown).
