Product Description

Batiks are produced in Kenya by brushing hot liquid wax onto a piece of cotton cloth in the desired pattern. The canvas is then dipped into a dye which adheres to all of the areas that are not covered by the wax. The wax is then removed and reapplied repeated for each color used. This is a tedious time consuming endeavor that yields exceptional art. Animals, village scenes, landscapes, seascapes and abstracts compose much of the subject matter. The colors are natural and brilliant! The underlying batik background has been enhanced by a hand painted scene. For the Maasai to survive water must be obtained on a constant basis. One chore that is alloted for the women is to bring back water to her family and tribe. The water is usually contained in a natural gourd and carried for miles back to the village. This selection can be hung as is or framed.
