When we think of African art, statues and masks usually come to mind. However, since the earliest of times, Africans were skilled jewelers. They made a wide variety of necklaces, chokers, and countless other selections. On display is a choker handmade from the country of Niger. Leather strips, tiny embossed brass sections, copper hoops and a single prestigious cowry shell have been integrated together to form this selection. Both male and female natives alike adorn themselves with this piece.
These items are at least 25 years old and reflect traditional African tribal styling.
