The necklace before you is highly favored by the nomads of the Saharan desert, the Tuareg. The basic structural design of the pendant and the fine etchings are proudly unique to them. The tiny ornate markings generally translate into words and phrases, thought to be empowered by God, which will protect the wearer. The metal itself, silver, is purported to be pure and possess protective qualities. The owner of this elaborate selection would be viewed as successful and powerful by his peers and enemies. The pendant consists of two separate silver custom designed sections that are joined together by a handmade silver hinge system which enables each portion to move independently. The upper portion features an ornate rectangle with thin copper strips on the left and right borders. This motif is reminiscent of traditional Tuareg scripture holders. Two silver spheres flank the top section on both sides. The uniquely and attractively shaped lower half exhibits extensive symbolic detailing. The silver piece is ended by a large silver ball. The necklace is held upon a chain of medium sized ebony beads with four silver cylindrical sections spaced in between. This is an older traditional selection. There are two jewelers marks; one on the back of each section!
