Product Description

African necklace: The Tuareg of the Sahara are referred to in the Bible as the original “Canaanites.” The Tuareg are descendants from an ancient race of people known as Berbers. Jewelry from the Sahara has been characterized by traditional protective symbolism. The fine etchings and associated beliefs are a collusion of Islam, West African animism and Christian ideologies. The tiny detailed insignia generally translate into words and phrases, empowered by God, which will protect the wearer. The metal itself, silver, is purported to be pure and to possess protective qualities. According to Tuareg belief silver is “the metal of the Prophet.” The pendant and necklace design of our offering is unique to the Tuareg people. Both are finely detailed and professionally crafted. The elegant pendant consists of a highly polished oval selection of fine black agate that is surmounted and partially encased by an elaborate abstract silver version of a Tuareg turban. The ebon beads of the necklace are evenly spaced by embossed cylindrical and round silver sections. The clasp is of a sturdy claw construction. The jewelers mark is on the back of the pendant.

This pendant stone comes in two color varieties. Please select either Black or Earth Brown.

Dimensions: 10 inch hang length. The pendant measures 2 3/8 inches long x 1 3/8 inches wide.
